Axios: US may sell offensive weapons to NATO allies for Ukraine
NATO allies may purchase not only defensive but also offensive weapons from the United States for subsequent transfer to Ukraine, Axios reported, citing sources.
The outlet described U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent statement — that American allies will buy weapons from the U.S. and then provide them to Ukraine — as a “major shift” in the current Washington administration’s policy.
According to Axios, one source indicated that the plan could involve “not just air defense support,” but also “sales could include offensive weaponry.”
Earlier, Trump stated that Washington would send Ukraine some more weapons, noting that they would be primarily defensive.
However, U.S. administration officials quoted by Axios denied that the plans to sell weapons to NATO allies for Kyiv meant that Trump would be arming Ukraine.
Sources did not clarify when or how the U.S. would begin implementing this plan.
