Japan PM, Iran president discuss Strait of Hormuz security
30 April 2026 16:36
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has held a phone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to discuss the situation around the Strait of Hormuz.
The conversation took place after a Japanese vessel successfully passed through the strategically vital maritime route, Caliber.Az reports, citing Japanese media.
Takaichi said the government held another interagency meeting on the Middle East situation, during which she confirmed the vessel’s transit and discussed maritime security issues.
She added that Japan received a shipment of crude oil from the United States over the weekend, purchased as an alternative supply source amid disruptions linked to the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.
