China launches crackdown on AI misuse
Cyberspace Administration of China has announced the launch of a four-month campaign aimed at tackling the misuse of artificial intelligence technologies, according to an official statement released on Thursday, April 30.
The initiative will be carried out in two phases and will focus on a range of issues, including inadequate safety protections in AI models, incidents of “data poisoning,” and the failure to properly register and label content generated using artificial intelligence.
Authorities said particular attention will be given to the misuse of AI-generated content, including the dissemination of disinformation, “violent and vulgar” material, impersonation, and content that could pose risks to minors.
As part of the campaign, the agency said it will remove illegal and harmful content and take enforcement measures against accounts and platforms found to be in violation of existing regulations.
