G7 calls for complete denuclearisation of North Korea
The foreign ministers of the Group of Seven (G7) countries have adopted a communiqué demanding the complete denuclearisation of North Korea.
The document expresses strong condemnation of North Korea’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs in connection with recent missile tests, Caliber.Az reports.
“We strongly condemned the DPRK’s [Democratic People's Republic of Korea] nuclear and ballistic missile programs and reaffirmed our commitment to the complete denuclearization of the DPRK, in accordance with relevant UN Security Council Resolutions,” the joint statement reads.
In line with UN Security Council resolutions, the G7 reaffirmed its “commitment to the complete denuclearisation of the DPRK.”
The statement also voiced concern over alleged cryptocurrency thefts carried out by North Korea and called for a prompt resolution of the cyber theft issue.
It also urged North Korea to resolve the issue of abductions of Japanese citizens expeditiously.
For the record, the abductions by North Korea refer to a series of kidnappings carried out by North Korean agents during the 1970s and 1980s. The victims were taken from Japan and other countries to North Korea, where they were reportedly forced to teach Japanese language and culture to North Korean spies, provide technical skills, or assume false identities for espionage operations.
As for the war in Ukraine, the ministers condemned “the provision to Russia of military assistance by DPRK and Iran, and the provision of weapons and dual-use components by China,” labelling the moves “a decisive enabler of Russia’s war.”
“We strongly condemned Russia’s recent direct attacks on energy infrastructure and reaffirmed our support for Ukraine’s energy security,” the document reads.
