Georgia's future in EU, says European Council president
Charles Michel, the President of the European Council, on April 25, by addressing the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, said the European Union would stand by him “every step of the way”.
"The EU stands by you every step of the way. And remains firmly committed to this European perspective and the historic opportunity it represents for the people of Georgia," Michel wrote on Twitter following the meeting with the Georgian premier in Brussels, per Caliber.Az.
Michel and Garibashvili discussed the process of Georgia's accession to the EU, where Garibashvili briefed the European Council President about the efforts made by his Government in fulfilling the EU recommendations for granting the country the membership candidate status.
"Georgia’s future is in the EU. To advance on the European path, now more than ever, the implementation of key priorities is crucial," Michel noted, adding that in the meeting with PM Garibashvili, he stressed the need to deepen reforms on the judiciary, rule of law, and freedom of the press.
