Israel intercepts missile launched from Yemen

The Israeli Air Force has intercepted a missile launched from Yemen towards Israel, the military’s press service has confirmed.

According to Caliber.Az, the army stated: “Some time ago, the Israeli Air Force intercepted a missile launched from Yemen.”

Officials noted that air raid sirens were not activated, in line with standard protocol.

Israel maintains a multi-layered air defence system, including the Iron Dome, designed to detect and neutralise incoming missiles before they can cause civilian casualties or damage. Typically, authorities activate air raid sirens only if there is a significant threat to populated areas.

Tensions between Israel and Yemen's Houthi rebels have escalated significantly since late 2023, with both sides engaging in a series of retaliatory strikes.

The Houthis, aligned with Iran, initiated attacks on Israeli targets, including a hypersonic missile strike on Ben Gurion Airport in September 2024, leading to widespread panic and flight disruptions.

In response, Israel conducted extensive airstrikes on Houthi-controlled ports and power facilities in Yemen, notably on September 29, 2024, targeting Hodeidah and Ras Isa ports, resulting in at least six fatalities and over 50 injuries.

These strikes aimed to disrupt the Houthis' military capabilities and supply chains. The conflict has also severely impacted international shipping, with the Houthis threatening attacks on vessels calling at Israeli ports.

Despite ceasefire efforts mediated by the United States, hostilities continue, reflecting the deepening regional instability.
