Media: Zelenskyy touches down in London to meet British PM ahead of Trump-Putin summit
On August 14, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is set to meet British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at Downing Street in an unannounced visit, officials confirmed.
The talks come ahead of a planned summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on August 15, where the conflict in Ukraine is expected to be a key topic, Caliber.Az reports, citing Sky News.
Discussions in London are expected to focus on Ukraine’s defence needs, humanitarian support, and ways to encourage a ceasefire.
The visit follows Trump’s warning to Putin of “severe consequences” should Russia fail to agree to a ceasefire, underscoring the urgency of diplomatic efforts.
Trump is scheduled to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska, to discuss the ongoing war in Ukraine, a White House official said.
The base, formed in 2010 by merging Elmendorf Air Force Base and Fort Richardson, played a pivotal role during the Cold War in monitoring Soviet activity and nuclear threats.
It earned the nickname “Top Cover for North America” for its strategic importance.
Although much of the Cold War-era hardware has been retired, the base remains active, hosting key aircraft such as the F-22 Raptor stealth fighter and continuing to intercept Russian aircraft that enter U.S. airspace.
