Georgia signals readiness to restore strategic ties with US
Tbilisi has expressed readiness to restore its strategic partnership with Washington, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced, as the country awaits a response from the US administration.
“You are aware of the context of Georgian-American relations. This context is very difficult; it was created by the administration of [former US President Joe] Biden. We will see, we are waiting patiently. We have publicly stated that we are ready to restore the strategic partnership [with the United States] from a clean slate and with a concrete roadmap. We are waiting for the decision of the American administration,” Kobakhidze told reporters, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
Bilateral relations deteriorated in 2024 after Georgia adopted the Foreign Agents Law and froze negotiations on its European Union accession. In response, the US State Department suspended the country’s strategic partnership with the United States.
Even before the election of Donald Trump, Georgian officials had repeatedly signaled their hope for a reset in relations with Washington following the transition in US leadership.
