Georgian government sees no need to cancel visa-free regime with Russia
Georgian Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili, believes that today there is no need to introduce a visa regime with Russia.
Georgian Finance Ministry also includes the customs service as well.
“The current border control mechanisms fully meet the challenges facing the country, so at this stage I personally do not see the need to introduce a visa regime with Russia,” Interfax quotes Khutsishvili as saying at a briefing on October 17.
This is how he commented on the statement of Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili in Chisinau that the government might consider introducing a visa regime with Russia.
At the same time, Lasha Khutsishvili noted that if the moment comes when the existing mechanisms at the border cannot provide a security standard, “we can talk about revising the regime, but, I repeat, today there is no need for this.”
Earlier, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili also told journalists that the Georgian government would not yet review the issue of the current visa-free regime with Russia.
Georgia has currently a visa-free regime not only with Russia, but also with almost hundred countries of the world.
