Germany pledges major military boost for Ukraine under new security framework
Germany is positioning itself as a central player in the framework of long-term security guarantees for Ukraine, proposing a comprehensive package of military support aimed at enhancing Ukraine’s defensive and deterrent capabilities. While Berlin remains cautious about committing Bundeswehr troops to any future multinational contingent, it has signaled a significant increase in material and strategic assistance.
The German government is set to present its proposals during a meeting of the “Coalition of the Willing” in Paris, Caliber.Az reports, citing German media.
The core of Berlin’s offer centers on a major reinforcement of Ukraine’s air defence systems—an area deemed critical amid sustained Russian aerial and missile attacks. The plan reportedly includes a 20% year-on-year increase in German support for Ukraine’s air defence capabilities.
In a further boost to Ukraine’s strategic deterrence, Germany intends to assist in the development of the country’s long-range strike capacity. This support will focus particularly on the production of cruise missiles within Ukraine, leveraging both financial and technical backing from Germany and other partner nations.
Equally notable is Germany’s proposal to equip four Ukrainian mechanized brigades. This initiative would involve the annual delivery of around 480 armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles—representing a significant logistical and industrial commitment.
Germany’s vision for the broader framework of security guarantees extends beyond hardware. Berlin emphasizes continued investment in the training of Ukrainian forces and the deepening of defence-industrial cooperation between Ukraine and its allies. These areas, where Germany already plays a leading role, are seen as essential pillars in building a resilient and modernized Ukrainian military.
