Germany urges Iran to travel to Pakistan for talks with US
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has urged Iran to come to Islamabad and enter into constructive negotiations with the United States.
He noted that US Vice President JD Vance was en route to Pakistan and that Iran should accept this outstretched hand of assistance in the interest of its people, Caliber.Az reports, citing the AP.
Wadephul made the remarks on the sidelines of a meeting of European Union foreign ministers in Luxembourg.
Experts say there is much uncertainty about the next round of talks between Iran and the US in Islamabad.
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told his Pakistani counterpart that US actions, statements, and “excessive demands” show Washington is not serious about diplomacy.
Subsequently, he said Iran does not trust the US negotiating process and believes Washington is not genuinely seeking an agreement.
Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said today that diplomacy "should be used to reduce tensions," but there's a question over how much power he actually holds.
