Health Ministry: Death toll in Gaza nears 54,000 amid ongoing Israeli assault

The Palestinian Health Ministry has stated that the death toll in Gaza reached a staggering 53,939 since Israel began its military campaign against the enclave in October 2023.

The ministry noted that 38 more bodies were recovered over the past 24 hours, while 204 people sustained injuries, bringing the total number of those wounded during the offensive to 122,797, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media. 

“Many victims are still trapped under the rubble and on the roads as rescuers are unable to reach them,” the statement added, underscoring the severe limitations faced by emergency responders amid the continued bombardment.

Hostilities intensified again on March 18, when the Israeli military resumed attacks following the breakdown of a temporary ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement that had held since January. The renewed offensive has claimed 3,785 lives and left 10,756 more injured in just over two months.
