Hidden webcam feature found in Samsung smartphones
A hidden feature has been discovered in the new Samsung Galaxy S26 that allows users to use the phone’s camera as a webcam for video calls, Android Authority reports.
To activate the feature, users simply need to connect their smartphone to a computer, and the camera feed will stream directly from the phone. Journalists note that modern smartphone cameras, including the Galaxy S26, deliver far higher quality than most built-in laptop webcams, offering improved colour reproduction and a wider dynamic range.
According to the report, the feature was originally developed by Google engineers and later adapted by Samsung specialists. However, it is not yet available on all devices running One UI 8.5—for example, the Galaxy S25 currently lacks the function, but it is expected to be added later, as it is based on built-in Android capabilities.
