India to use only local companies to develop 5G networks
The Indian government has changed its mind about developing 5G networks in the current format.
Now only Indian providers will be able to do installation work, according to The Times of India.
Previously, India used the services of Chinese and European suppliers for these purposes. The authorities thought t, ey would be replaced by local companies such as Shyam VNL, HFCL and TCS-Tejas. The government is also concerned about possible data leakage using 5G telecom equipment.
The head of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of India, Ashwini Vaishnow, said that the authorities will invest from $20 to $30 billion in the creation of 5G in the next 2-3 years. He warned that the use of Chinese or European technologies by companies would lead to punishment from the Indian authorities.
