Indian police seize massive stockpile of explosives, arrest man
Indian authorities arrested a 58-year-old man in Rajasthan’s Nagaur district on January 25 after discovering a large cache of explosives, including 9,550 kg of ammonium nitrate, at his residence.
“Based on some internal inputs, a special team of Nagaur police conducted a raid at the accused, Suleman Khan’s residence in Nagaur’s Thanvla on Sunday [ January 25 - ed] and found a huge amount of explosives,” Nagaur Superintendent of Police (SP) Mridul Kachhwa said, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
Police said Suleman had stored the explosives in 187 cartons at his property, along with nine carton detonators, 15 bundles of blue wick wire, nine bundles of red wick wire, and additional materials.
“The accused Suleman Khan also has three cases lodged against him at Nagaur’s Thanvla, Padukallan, and Alwar’s Chaupasni. All three cases are under the Explosives Act,” Kachhwa added.
Following the seizure, Suleman was arrested, and a case was filed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Explosives Act, 1884. The SP noted that the suspect already had three previous criminal cases registered against him.
“Prima facie, Suleman also used to supply explosives to mine owners. However, given the large amount seized, we suspect he might also be involved in some bigger plot. We may also contact central agencies for interrogating him,” a senior police officer said.
Ammonium nitrate, a chemical widely used in mining and agriculture, has been linked to several major explosions in India, including an incident near Delhi’s Red Fort in November 2025.
