"Kaplan is the world's first modern medium tank equipped with the latest technologies," PT Pindad said in a statement.
The contract for the delivery of 18 vehicles was signed back in 2019 and the deadline has been continuously postponed since then.
The development of the new tank was initiated by the country's military department and became one of the priority programs of the local defense industry, based on solutions offered by the Turkish defense company FNSS.
Developed as a result of cooperation between the two countries, the Kaplan (local name - Harimau, "Tiger") has a weight of 30 tons. The tank's logistics is located in the aft part of the tank. It is equipped with the C3150 twin turret, which is armed with a 105 mm cannon, supplemented by a versatile 7.62 mm machine gun capable of firing at aerial targets due to its high vertical guidance angle (+42 degrees).
The tank's ballistic protection complies with STANAG 4569 Level 5 (withstands a 30-mm armor-piercing shell at a distance of 500 m and fragments from a 155-mm when detonated at a distance of 10 m). The tank's mine countermeasures capabilities allow it to withstand the detonation of 10 kg of explosives under the track.
