Iran announces detention of 27 as security operations intensify
Iranian authorities detained 27 people on Saturday, March 14, on charges of activities threatening the country’s national security, amid the ongoing war involving the US, Israel and Iran.
According to Shafaq News, the detentions were announced by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which said that 13 of the suspects were arrested while in possession of three Starlink satellite communication terminals. Iranian authorities have repeatedly restricted the use of the Starlink service, which provides internet access outside government-controlled networks.
The arrests come as Iranian security forces intensify operations against groups accused of cooperating with foreign actors.
Earlier, Iranian security forces said they had dismantled an armed group in Khuzestan province and arrested six of its members. The suspects were accused of maintaining links with “hostile organisations” abroad, including the US and Israel.
Local media reported that during the operation, authorities seized firearms, four improvised explosive devices that were ready for detonation, as well as equipment used to manufacture explosives.
