Iran confirms deaths of two additional generals

24 June 2025 17:33

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has said that Deputy Head of the Intelligence Organisation of Iran’s Law Enforcement Force (FARAJA), Brigadier General Alireza Lotfi was killed during an attack carried out by Israel.

The IRGC also reported that Brigadier General Mohammad Taghi Yousefvand, the commander of Basij’s Intelligence Protection, was killed in an Israeli strike on June 23, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.

Early on June 13, Israel launched a series of airstrikes against Iran, resulting in the deaths of numerous military personnel. In retaliation, Iran fired over 150 ballistic missiles and more than 100 drones at Tel Aviv and other districts of Israel, causing civilian casualties and significant destruction. On June 22, the US Air Force launched airstrikes targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities. According to reports, the strikes destroyed key nuclear sites.

US President Donald Trump stated on social media that the US had completed a very successful strike on three nuclear facilities in Iran - Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. He noted that all aircraft were outside Iranian airspace, the full payload of bombs had been delivered to the main Fordow site, and all planes were returning home safely. On the evening of June 23, Iran responded with airstrikes on a US military base in Qatar. By June 24, with mediation by President Trump, a ceasefire was announced between the parties. Iran’s Supreme National Security Council also confirmed the cessation of hostilities in an official statement.
