Iran summons Australian ambassador over "norm-breaking" Instagram post

Iran's Foreign Ministry has summoned Australian Ambassador Ian McConville in response to a pro-LGBT publication shared on the Australian Embassy’s Instagram account. 

According to a statement from the Iranian Foreign Ministry, the publication was deemed offensive and inconsistent with Iranian and Islamic norms, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media. 

The head of the regional directorate of the foreign ministry expressed strong disapproval and lodged a formal protest with the Australian embassy.

In his response, Ambassador McConville assured that the embassy had no intention of offending the Iranian people and committed to relaying Iran’s concerns to his government.
