Hungary not to support opening Ukraine’s EU accession negotiations
Hungary will not support the opening of the first cluster of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said following an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Copenhagen.
According to Szijjártó, the Hungarian government will not allow “Ukraine to be pushed into the EU” because it could harm national interests, Caliber.Az reports, citing Hungarian media.
He expressed concerns about potential impacts on Hungarian farmers, food security, and domestic stability, warning that it “would allow the Ukrainian mafia to penetrate Hungary.”
“That is why we will not allow the opening of the substantive part of the negotiations, that is, the specific chapters of the accession talks,” Szijjártó added.
