Iraqi deputy PM: Development of ties with Azerbaijan priority in Baghdad's political line

Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein has said that the development of ties with Azerbaijan is a priority in Baghdad's political line.

He made the remarks at a meeting with Azerbaijan's charge d'affaires in Iraq Nasir Mammadov on February 27, Azertag reports.

Fuad Hussein stressed that the development of relations with Azerbaijan is a priority political line for official Baghdad. He noted that Iraq has always supported the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and has closely cooperated with our country within the framework of international organisations, including the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and the Non-Aligned Movement. He added that Iraq is interested in further development of bilateral ties.

The current state and prospects of mutually beneficial cooperation were discussed at the meeting. It was noted that Azerbaijan and Iraq have great potential for further expansion of ties, and this potential should be used effectively.

Nasir Mammadov noted that after the liberation of Karabakh from occupation by the Azerbaijani army under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, large-scale landscaping and construction work began in the region.

"So, today smart villages are being built in Karabakh according to modern standards, and infrastructure is being restored. International airports have already been built and put into operation in Karabakh," Mammadov said.

The meeting also discussed the creation of the Council of Entrepreneurs, the expansion of economic and trade relations, as well as the training of Iraqi youth in Azerbaijani universities. During the conversation, the development of Azerbaijan's transport infrastructure was touched upon.
