Azerbaijani ministry: Armenia deliberately targeted civilians during second Karabakh war
Representative of the Azerbaijani Defence Ministry Selim Ahmadov has said that Armenia, in violation of international humanitarian law, deliberately targeted civilians during the second Karabakh war.
Ahmadov made these remarks during a workshop dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Geneva Conventions in Baku, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
He emphasised that Armenia's missile strikes on Ganja and Barda cities caused significant damage to both civilians and infrastructure.
"As a result of Armenia's missile attack on Ganja, 174 people were wounded. Among them, 61 men, 66 women, and 47 children. During the attack on Barda, 29 people, including 19 men, 8 women, and 2 children, were killed. Moreover, 112 people sustained serious injuries, including 71 men, 26 women, and 15 children. These are the facts," he added.
The missile attacks on Ganja by Armenian forces were carried out on four different occasions — October 4, 8, 11, and 17, 2020. These strikes resulted in the deaths of 27 people, with 175 others suffering injuries. In addition to the loss of life, extensive damage was inflicted on civilian infrastructure, including homes, vehicles, and businesses.
Throughout the second Karabakh war, 93 civilians lost their lives due to Armenian aggression, including 12 children and 27 women. A total of 454 civilians were injured, and nearly 12,500 residential and commercial properties were either damaged or destroyed, along with 288 vehicles and 1,018 agricultural farms.
