Azerbaijani PM sends condolences over Georgian Patriarch Ilia II’s death

Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov expressed condolences on the passing of Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II.

Asadov visited the Georgian Embassy in Azerbaijan and signed the book of condolences, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Cabinet of Ministers.

Ilia II, the longtime leader of the Georgian Orthodox Church, passed away at 93 following hospitalisation for internal bleeding on March 17, 2026. He had been a prominent spiritual and national figure, guiding the Church since 1977.
