The NB8 is an informal regional cooperation format uniting eight Northern European states — Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania — to promote political dialogue and joint action on regional and global issues.
It originated in the early 1990s, evolving from earlier Nordic‑Baltic contacts into a structured “Nordic‑Baltic Eight” format in 2000, and operates without a permanent secretariat, with one member rotating as coordinator each year.
NB8 works through regular meetings of prime ministers, foreign ministers and senior officials to strengthen cooperation on foreign policy, security, resilience, defence, economy and other shared priorities.
