Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation arrives in Tbilisi for Patriarch Ilia II funeral

A delegation from Azerbaijan, led by Milli Majlis (Parliament) Speaker Sahiba Gafarova, has arrived in Tbilisi to attend the funeral ceremony for His Holiness Ilia II, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia.

According to local media, the delegation also includes Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade, Chairperson of the Caucasus Muslims Office, and Deputy Prime Minister Samir Sharifov.

During the visit, the delegation will convey deep condolences and support to the Georgian people on behalf of the Azerbaijani nation.

For the record, Ilia II passed away on March 17 at the age of 93. A period of mourning has been declared in Georgia in connection with his death.

The farewell ceremony includes a procession from the Holy Trinity Cathedral to the Sioni Cathedral.

The funeral will take place today at 15:00 at the Sioni Cathedral.
