Azerbaijan hopes Iran will fulfil its assurances to investigate Nakhchivan attack
Azerbaijan hopes that Iran will honour its assurances to conduct a full investigation into the drone strike on Nakhchivan and take necessary measures to prevent similar incidents in the future, Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said.
Bayramov made the statement during a consultative meeting of foreign ministers in Saudi Arabia’s capital, Riyadh, Caliber.Az reports, citing via the Foreign Ministry's post on X.
Bayramov reminded participants that on March 5, drones originating from Iranian territory struck infrastructure in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. The attacks injured four civilians and caused significant damage to critical infrastructure, including Nakhchivan International Airport.
The minister emphasised that Azerbaijan responded swiftly and decisively to the incident, reaffirming its commitment to defending its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the safety of its citizens by all lawful means.
“The assurances provided by the Iranian side regarding a thorough investigation into the incident will be fulfilled and that necessary measures will be taken to prevent any recurrence,” Bayramov added.
