Euronews spotlights strategic outcomes of President Aliyev’s Germany trip

European media outlets have focused on Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to Germany and the agreements signed during the trip, with Euronews providing in-depth coverage of the Azerbaijani leader’s engagements in Berlin.

In its coverage, the broadcaster noted that the two sides signed a Joint Declaration on a Strategic Agenda for the Bilateral Partnership, along with a number of agreements covering energy, transport, infrastructure, trade and investment, as well as science and technology. It also highlighted that Germany became the second European country after Italy to enter into a similar agreement with Azerbaijan.

“Azerbaijan and Germany signed a strategic partnership declaration covering energy, transport and trade, with Chancellor Merz welcoming Azerbaijan's gas deliveries, expected to reach 2 billion cubic metres annually by next year, as a further step away from reliance on Moscow,” the report stated.

The article also noted Aliyev’s emphasis on Azerbaijan’s potential to expand gas supplies to Europe and the importance of attracting new investment to support that growth.

Euronews underscored German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s assessment of the Southern Gas Corridor as a reliable supply route and his statement that Germany intends to build a long-term partnership with Azerbaijan.

The outlet further stressed that Azerbaijan is already well established in the European gas market. Among the major buyers of Azerbaijani gas, which exports around 12 billion cubic metres annually to Europe, are Italy, Greece, Bulgaria and Hungary.
