Azerbaijan, Russia discuss climate cooperation, Caspian Sea issues

23 July 2026 19:31

Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has held talks with Russian Presidential Aide and Special Representative on Climate Issues Ruslan Edelgeriyev, focusing on bilateral cooperation on climate change, COP initiatives and regional issues.

According to Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting covered cooperation between Baku and Moscow in addressing climate change, as well as regional and international matters of mutual interest.

Bayramov outlined Azerbaijan's experience and achievements during its presidency of COP29, highlighting the country's cooperation with Australia, which will assume the COP31 presidency, and with Türkiye, the host nation for the conference.

The two sides also discussed cooperation on Caspian Sea issues, emphasising the importance of strengthening the work of the bilateral working group established to address matters related to the sea.

They underscored the need to protect the Caspian Sea's water resources and unique ecosystem, stressing the role of innovative technologies, including in agriculture, and the implementation of joint projects to support environmental sustainability.

The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on other bilateral issues of mutual interest, the ministry said.
