Azerbaijani MFA says it repatriated 16 citizens from Syria

Azerbaijan has repatriated 16 of its citizens, including nine children and seven women, from Syria as part of the government's phased and coordinated efforts, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The ministry said the repatriation operation was carried out on July 18–19 after the identities, locations and Azerbaijani citizenship of the individuals had been verified, Caliber.Az reports.

Officials from the government agencies responsible for the operation were dispatched to Syria, where the repatriates underwent medical and psychological assessments.

Azerbaijan's embassies in Syria and Türkiye, as well as its Consulate General in Istanbul, coordinated the process, providing the citizens with emergency travel documents and airline tickets for their return home.

The next stage of the process will focus on the repatriates' social rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

"The Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan will continue to take the necessary measures to repatriate Azerbaijani citizens who have become victims of armed conflicts in foreign countries," the ministry noted.
