Over 2,800 people evacuated from Iran to Azerbaijan since February 28 photo
Azerbaijan has received a total of 2,853 evacuees from Iran between 08:00 on February 28 and 10:00 on March 20, as foreign nationals continue to be relocated from the conflict zone.
According to local media, 470 of those evacuated are Azerbaijani citizens, while the overall number includes individuals from 75 countries.
The evacuations began after a sharp escalation in regional tensions on February 28, when the United States and Israel launched a military operation against Iran. The strikes resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, along with several senior officials.
In response, Iran carried out retaliatory attacks not only against Israel but also against countries hosting US and allied military bases, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain, Iraq, and Cyprus.
Amid the widening conflict, Azerbaijan became a key transit point for the evacuation of foreign nationals leaving Iran.
