Brazil’s FM thanks Azerbaijan for role in Iran evacuations
Brazil’s Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira thanked Azerbaijan for assisting in the evacuation of Brazilian citizens and diplomats from Iran, during talks with his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov, the Foreign Ministry said.
The ministers discussed bilateral ties between Azerbaijan and Brazil, including trade, investment and coordination across multilateral platforms, alongside the deteriorating security situation in the Middle East, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Foreign Ministry.
They reviewed progress within the Azerbaijan–Brazil Working Group on Trade and Investment and explored the scope to deepen cooperation. Climate coordination also featured prominently, with both sides discussing alignment ahead of COP29 and COP30.
Both ministers voiced concern over the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and stressed the need to prevent further escalation, calling for resolutions grounded in international law through dialogue and diplomacy.
Brazil expressed solidarity with Azerbaijan following a reported drone attack launched from Iranian territory. Vieira also conveyed appreciation for Baku’s role in facilitating evacuations amid heightened regional tensions.
The two sides exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest, the statement added.
