ISIS cells attack two military checkpoints in Syria's Deir ez-Zor
Cells of the terrorist organization (ISIS) launched coordinated attacks in Hatla Village, situated in the northern Deir ez-Zor countryside, targeting positions held by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Internal Security Forces (Al-Asayish).
In one incident, ISIS militants fired machine guns and grenades at an SDF military checkpoint. Simultaneously, another attack was carried out on an Al-Asayish checkpoint in the same village, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).
According to SOHR, no casualties were reported in the attacks.
Notably, since the beginning of 2024, SOHR has documented 259 operations by ISIS encompassing armed attacks, executions, and explosions targeting military and security personnel. These operations have resulted in 117 fatalities to date, with victims including 75 members of the Syrian Defence Forces (SDF), Al-Asayish, and other military groups, 29 civilians, and 13 ISIS fighters.
Regionally, the majority of these attacks occurred in Deir ez-Zor, which saw 222 incidents, leaving 53 combatants, 21 civilians, including a child and two women, and eight ISIS members dead. Other areas affected include Al-Hasakah, with 20 attacks resulting in 10 combatant fatalities and 5 ISIS deaths, and Al-Raqqah, where 15 assaults left eight combatants and five civilians, including four guards of civil institutions, dead. Additionally, two operations in Aleppo claimed the lives of two SDF members and left four civilians injured.
