France plans to create 100,000 defence jobs by 2030

16 September 2026 08:39

France is planning to create employment opportunities for 100,000 people in the defence industry by 2030 as the country seeks to strengthen the sector’s workforce, Le Figaro reports.

French Labour Minister Jean-Pierre Farandou has approved an employment plan with the support of France Travail, the country’s public employment service, according to the newspaper.

As part of the initiative, France Travail has established a working group headed by a retired general to help address the defence sector’s staffing needs.

The authorities are also preparing 15,000 training programmes tailored to the requirements of the defence industry.

The initiative comes as the French government seeks to bring more young people into the labour market while retaining experienced workers by adapting their skills to changing economic needs.

Farandou identified several priority areas for workforce development in early August, including nuclear energy, the environmental transition and the defence industry.
