Israeli airstrikes target Syrian military sites, research centre
On April 2 evening, Israeli aviation carried out a series of airstrikes on Syria, with a particular focus on the surroundings of a research center north of Damascus and near the central city of Hama.
The Israeli airstrike targeted the vicinity of the Scientific Research Building in the Barzeh area of the capital, Damascus, and the outskirts of Hama, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Syrian news agency SANA.
Syria’s Foreign Ministry condemned the Israeli raids on the country, calling them a “blatant violation of international law” in a statement.
Damascus also urged the international community to pressure Israel to stop its "aggression" and adhere to international law.
Sources from Al Arabiya reported that 12 airstrikes targeted the Hama military airport in Syria, noting that the Israeli raids resulted in casualties.
According to reports, the Israeli strikes targeted military aircraft at Hama airport.
Sources also reported an Israeli airstrike in the area of the T4 military airport in the suburbs of Homs.
Additionally, it was revealed that nine people were killed as a result of Israeli bombing in the western part of Daraa province.
In recent years, the research center has been subjected to Israeli raids, the most severe of which took place on December 10.
Notably, Israel and Syria have seen an increase in violence along the border after a new Islamist-led leadership was installed in Syria following Assad's ouster from power.
The Jewish state says it will not tolerate an Islamist militant presence in southern Syria and sent its troops into Syria's border zone. Syria's leadership has said it does not intend to open a front against Israel.
Israel spent years carrying out airstrikes on Syria during the rule of former President Bashar al-Assad, targeting Iran-linked military installations and weapons transfers from Tehran intended for the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah, which was deployed in Syrian territory.
