Israeli forces strike military targets in Iran as diplomatic efforts continue
The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) has carried out strikes on military targets in Iran, according to a statement published on the military’s Telegram channel.
“A short while ago, the Israeli Air Force struck military targets belonging to the Iranian terror regime in western and central Iran. Details to follow,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, Axios, citing sources, reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed during a conversation with US President Donald Trump to delay a broader response to Iran’s attacks in order to give Washington time to secure a deal with Tehran.
According to the report, Netanyahu initially objected but ultimately agreed to step back.
“We are in a moment in time — that why jeopardize a potential deal when you are in the fourth quarter. The President thinks that we have been in this thing for three months — now is the time to end this thing,” a US source told the outlet, explaining Washington’s position.
Trump himself told the Financial Times that Netanyahu “will have no choice” but to accept any agreement the United States reaches with Tehran through negotiations.
On June 7, Iran launched a missile strike against Israel, describing it as retaliation for an Israeli attack on Beirut. At the same time, a senior US official cited by Axios stressed that the White House had not authorised the Israeli strike on the Lebanese capital.
