Ivorian FM: Baku to foster global cooperation on climate challenges

Azerbaijan, as the host of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), is actively engaging with all stakeholders and listening to their concerns.

Kacou Houadja Léon Adom, the Ivorian Foreign Minister,  made the statement expressing confidence in the collaborative efforts taking place in Baku, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

“I am closely monitoring the activities of the Azerbaijani COP team. They are conducting meetings with countries affected by climate change and building connections with all involved parties. This cooperation is crucial, as we must work together to achieve successful outcomes. We have shared our country's climate issues with the Azerbaijani government. With COP29 approaching, we are optimistic about achieving positive dynamics in Baku,” Adom remarked.

The minister also announced that this will be his first visit to Azerbaijan for COP29.

Scheduled for November, COP29 will turn Baku into a global hub, welcoming approximately 70,000 to 80,000 international guests. This decision was made during the COP28 plenary session in Dubai on December 11, 2023. The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is an agreement established at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992, aimed at preventing dangerous human interference with the climate system.

The acronym COP stands for "Conference of the Parties," the highest decision-making body responsible for overseeing the implementation of the UNFCCC, which has 198 member states. The COP meets annually unless otherwise decided by the parties. The inaugural COP event took place in Berlin in March 1995, with its secretariat located in Bonn.
