Western Azerbaijan Community urges Swiss parliament to halt anti-Azerbaijani bias
The Western Azerbaijan Community has issued a statement condemning a proposal from the Foreign Policy Commission of the Swiss Federal Assembly.
This proposal, which the community describes as biased and defamatory towards Azerbaijan, calls on the Swiss government to “organize a conference between the government of Azerbaijan and Armenians from Karabakh”, Caliber.Az reports.
The community's statement asserts that the approaches and assertions in the proposal contradict Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty, as well as established norms of international law. It suggests that the authors of the document are not genuinely committed to fostering peace and dialogue.
Furthermore, the community highlighted that the Azerbaijani government had previously announced its plans for the reintegration of Karabakh Armenians and engaged in dialogue with them last year, which was ultimately rejected by the Karabakh Armenians.
The statement argues that the call for “dialogue” in light of this situation constitutes an abuse of Switzerland's neutral status and exacerbates tensions in the region. It emphasizes that the Armenian government, which expelled Azerbaijanis from its territory, should be the one called to dialogue.
In conclusion, the community urges the Swiss Parliament to put an end to this bias and to uphold the rights of Azerbaijanis to return to their homes safely and with dignity.
