Baku may lift embargo on arms supplies to Kyiv: Russian MFA comments on Caliber.Az exclusive VIDEO

13 August 2025 14:54

In Moscow, alarm bells rang after Baku announced that, in response to Russia's aggressive policy toward Azerbaijan's interests, the country might consider lifting the arms embargo on supplies to Ukraine.

Today, August 13, the Deputy Director of the Information Policy Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Alexey Fadeev, stated at a briefing that “Azerbaijan is aware of Russia’s position on arms supplies to Ukraine; this will only worsen the situation.”

As a reminder, on August 10, Caliber.Az, citing reliable sources, reported that if Russia continues its aggressive policy toward Azerbaijan’s interests, official Baku will begin considering the possibility of lifting the arms embargo on supplying weapons from its arsenal to Ukraine.

Caliber.Az noted that Russian armed forces have begun systematically striking Azerbaijan’s energy facilities on Ukrainian territory. This situation forces Baku to take countermeasures. All of this will inevitably further deepen the crisis in bilateral relations.

On the night of August 7 to 8, 2025, Russian forces attacked a SOCAR oil depot in Ukraine’s Odesa region. Russia deployed five Shahed strike drones against the SOCAR facility, causing a fire and damaging a diesel pipeline. Four company employees were seriously injured. This was the second attack in recent weeks on Azerbaijan-linked facilities in Ukraine. Earlier, a gas distribution station near Orlivka—a key part of the Trans-Balkan pipeline through which Azerbaijani gas began flowing to Ukraine on June 28—was also attacked.

It is unclear why Fadeev spoke of “worsening the situation,” trying to blame Azerbaijan while completely ignoring Moscow’s aggressive policy toward Baku and the Azerbaijani diaspora in Russia. Open your eyes, comrade Fadeev: the initiator of the current crisis in Azerbaijan-Russia relations was by no means Baku.
