Azerbaijan's Prosecutor General highlights final preparations for COP29 Amid high-level international collaboration
The Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan, in collaboration with the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), has announced that preparations for the upcoming COP29 climate conference are nearing completion.
This announcement was made during a special session titled “Protecting people and planet through a crime prevention and criminal justice lens – from Vienna (UNTOC-COP12) to Baku (UNFCCC-COP29),” Caliber.Az reports per local media.
The event, which took place in Baku, saw participation from senior representatives of various diplomatic missions accredited in Vienna, as well as officials from the Procurator General's Offices of Austria and Thailand, the International Anti-Corruption Academy, and the International Association of Prosecutors.
In her keynote address, Ghada Fathy Waly, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Executive Director of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), commended Azerbaijan for its proactive efforts in hosting COP29, set to take place in November. She highlighted the significant advancements made under Azerbaijan's leadership, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to climate action.
Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev reaffirmed that preparations are in their final stages, underscoring the importance of collaborative international efforts in addressing climate change. He announced a high-level session titled “Mobilization of law enforcement agencies in the fight against climate change,” scheduled for November 15, which aims to engage law enforcement entities in climate action.
Prosecutor General Aliyev also held several bilateral meetings, further strengthening international cooperation in the pursuit of environmental justice and crime prevention.
