Karabakh welcomes guests of Turkic World Week
Azerbaijan has launched Turkic World Week, a series of cultural and academic events marking the 100th anniversary of the First Turkology Congress, with programmes taking place in Baku and the cities of Shusha, Aghdam and Khankendi.
The commemorative events are being held in areas of the Karabakh region that Azerbaijan regained control of in recent years, where reconstruction and restoration projects are ongoing, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
The initiative is organised by Azerbaijan's Ministry of Culture in cooperation with the National Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Science and Education. It is supported by the Organisation of Turkic States, TURKSOY, the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, the Turkish Academy and Baku State University.
The week has brought together representatives from 20 countries, including Turkic states, as well as around 130 scholars from research institutions and representatives of international Turkic organisations.
As part of the programme, participants will visit the city of Shusha before attending a performance of the play "Iblis" by the Azerbaijan State Pantomime Theatre at the Aghdam Mugham Centre. The delegation will also tour the Imarat Historical and Architectural Museum Complex.
On July 2, Karabakh University in Khankendi will host a scientific conference titled "The Scientific and Cultural Legacy of the First Turkic Studies Congress."
Participants will also take part in a guided tour of Khankendi as part of the event's cultural programme.
