Kazakh president signs decree on implementing new Constitution
A ceremonial event marking the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan was held at the Akorda presidential residence on March 17.
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a decree on the implementation of the new Constitution, Caliber.Az reports via Tokayev's press service.
“The Head of State, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, signed the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the decree ‘On measures to implement the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan adopted on March 15, 2026,’” the statement said.
Following the signing ceremony, the president addressed the audience, describing the development and adoption of what he called a “truly People’s Constitution” as a reflection of national unity and broad support for the country’s modernisation and reform strategy.
Tokayev noted that the historical significance of the document would be recognised by both current and future generations, adding that citizens had been given a unique opportunity to shape the direction of the nation’s development through their participation in the referendum.
The president thanked all those who took part in the referendum, highlighting the civic responsibility and patriotism demonstrated by voters, particularly the country’s youth.
“Young citizens have written their names into the chronicle of the nation and become co-authors of the Basic Law,” Tokayev said, adding that Kazakhstan’s present and future lie in the hands of the younger generation.
He also noted that he had received congratulatory messages from leaders of friendly states and international organisations following the successful referendum, expressing gratitude for their support and goodwill toward the Kazakh people.
