Kremlin comments on prospects for negotiations on grain deal alternative

The Kremlin has stated that the talks between Russia, Türkiye and Qatar regarding an alternative route to the grain deal have not led to any specific results yet.

As reported by Kommersant, the official spokesperson of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov said that discussions will continue during the Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan's two-day visit to Moscow, which has commenced on August 31. 

Talking to the press, Peskov commented on the expected talks with the Turkish minister, stating, that he does not know "how effect" they will be.

He once again stressed that Russia would agree to the extension of the grain agreement only after the fulfillment of the conditions put forward by it. "As a responsible grain supplier, Russia takes part in such discussions. And as the president said, Russia is ready to immediately resume the grain deal as soon as the conditions regarding it are fulfilled", he assured.

Caliber.Az recalls, that Russia withdrew from the Black Sea Grain Initiative, commonly known as the grain deal, claiming that the conditions Moscow gave in return for the passage of food goods from Ukraine had not been met. The main two conditions put forward by Russia are the granting of one of its local banks, Rosselkhozbank to be reconnected to the SWIFT system as well as lifting the ban on access of Russian agricultural products and fertilizers to the world market.
