Iranian Foreign Ministry denies US claims of nuclear talks resumption
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei dismissed recent claims made by US President Donald Trump regarding the resumption of nuclear negotiations between Tehran and Washington.
“No request for a meeting has been made to the American side from our side,” Baghaei statedm on July 8, contradicting Trump’s assertion that talks are back on schedule, Caliber.Az reports per Iranian media.
Earlier, President Trump told reporters, “They want to talk,” referring to Iran, and announced that a meeting was set to take place in Oslo, Norway, in the coming days.
On June 13, Israel launched a major air campaign targeting Iran’s top military leadership, nuclear scientists, uranium enrichment facilities, and ballistic missile infrastructure. The Israeli government stated that the operation was aimed at neutralising what it described as an imminent existential threat posed by Iran’s declared intention to destroy the Jewish state. As the offensive progressed, Israeli strikes expanded to include targets such as Iranian state media and domestic security forces.
Following a 12-day campaign of strikes, the US launched military attacks on three Iranian nuclear facilities in Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan on June 22.
In repsonse, Iranian armed forces launched missile strikes at the al-Udeid air base in Qatar, the largest US military base in West Asia.
A ceasefire came into effect on June 24, bringing an end to the recent hostilities.
