Iran warns US, Israel of possible retaliation in case of attack
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has stated that U.S. and Israeli facilities could become a “legitimate target” for Tehran in the event of a foreign attack on Iran.
Speaking in parliament amid ongoing protests in the country, Ghalibaf emphasised that Iran does not limit its right to self-defence to merely retaliatory measures, Caliber.Az reports per Iranian media.
He added that in the event of a U.S. strike, regional bases of Israel and the U.S., as well as their military and naval facilities, would be targeted.
Tensions between Iran, the United States, and Israel remain high amid ongoing domestic unrest in Iran. These tensions escalated dramatically in 2025, culminating in the 12-Day War, a direct armed conflict from June 13 to June 24, 2025. It marked the first full-scale, open war between the two longstanding adversaries, Iran and Israel, escalating their decades-long "shadow war" of proxy conflicts, cyberattacks, assassinations, and strikes into overt military confrontation. The United States became directly involved in the later stages, significantly impacting the outcome.
The June 2025 war severely damaged Iran's nuclear and missile capabilities, exposed regime vulnerabilities, and contributed to the economic and political instability fueling the current nationwide protests in Iran.
