Two Turkish commercial ships collide in Sea of Marmara

02 September 2026 09:22

Two Turkish-flagged commercial vessels collided in the Sea of Marmara off the coast of Silivri early on September 2, with contact subsequently lost with the 10 crew members aboard one of the ships.

The incident occurred at around 3 a.m. local time, approximately 18 nautical miles south of Silivri, according to TRT Haber.

The ALSU, which was sailing from Kocaeli to Aliağa, collided with the TUĞBERK İMAMOĞLU, which was travelling from Iskenderun to Karadeniz Ereğli.

Turkish Coast Guard units and a helicopter were dispatched to the area following the collision. A preliminary inspection found no damage to the ALSU.

However, authorities lost contact with all 10 crew members aboard the TUĞBERK İMAMOĞLU.

A search-and-rescue operation is continuing in the area.
