Iran pledges expanded economic, political cooperation with Lebanon
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, who is in Beirut for consultations with senior Lebanese officials, held a meeting with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun.
“Araghchi emphasized Iran’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Lebanon in all areas of mutual interest, including the economy and trade,” Caliber.Az reports, citing Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“He expressed hope that the upcoming meeting of the Iran–Lebanon Joint Economic Commission, agreed upon with Lebanon’s Minister of Economy and Trade, would be held in the near future in Tehran or Beirut, creating new opportunities for the development of bilateral trade and economic exchanges.
In addition, the Iranian foreign minister outlined the Islamic Republic’s principled positions on bilateral relations and regional security, stressing respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national unity. Referring to the ongoing occupation and repeated attacks by Israel, Araghchi reaffirmed Iran’s support for the Lebanese government and people in defending the country’s sovereignty and stability.
The Lebanese president, for his part, expressed readiness to strengthen bilateral cooperation across all fields.
Araghchi also held meetings with Abdul Latif Derian, the Grand Mufti of Lebanon, his counterpart Youssef Rajji, and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri,” the statement noted.
