Kremlin welcomes German Chancellor's openness to dialogue on Ukraine conflict
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has expressed support for German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's statement about his willingness to engage in talks with President Vladimir Putin to resolve the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Peskov described Scholz's willingness to engage in dialogue as a significant signal, especially given that many Western nations have previously dismissed the possibility of negotiations, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
"We hear Scholz's words from Berlin about his readiness to pursue dialogue. These are important statements because, not long ago, Germany was among the collective West that completely ruled out any contact with Putin," Peskov noted.
He emphasized that such a hardline stance was unproductive and that Scholz's current openness is a positive development.
However, Peskov acknowledged that the negotiation process will be complex. "It is clear that dialogue will never be simple. But one way or another, any war ends at the negotiating table, and it ultimately leads to peace," he added, underscoring the necessity of discussions to resolve the conflict.
