Pashinyan, Putin poised for key talks at BRICS summit in Kazan Russian Ambassador says

19 October 2024 10:54

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan are expected to have opportunities for dialogue during the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin said.

In an interview with Russian media, Kopyrkin emphasized that Pashinyan's acceptance of Putin's personal invitation to participate in the BRICS+ events at the 16th summit underscores the strong ties between Russia and Armenia at the highest levels, Caliber.Az reports.

“I believe our leaders will have chances for communication; however, the format and agenda will depend on the program of this internationally significant forum, which is set to be quite comprehensive,” Kopyrkin noted.

The ambassador also remarked on the nature of BRICS as a collective of sovereign states, highlighting that it is not a platform for imposing unrealistic decisions or exerting undue pressure. He described the fundamental principles of interaction within BRICS as rooted in equality, mutual respect, openness, pragmatism, and solidarity.

“This is a club of sovereign states where it is not customary to impose absurd or unrealistic decisions or to ‘twist arms’ to serve the interests of a select few leaders. There are no leaders in the traditional sense, as all matters concerning the association's activities are resolved through mutually respectful and constructive dialogue, considering the interests and concerns of all participants involved,” Kopyrkin added.

The BRICS summit is scheduled to take place in Kazan on October 22-24.
