Türkiye successfully conducts third test launch of TAYFUN ballistic missile VIDEO
Türkiye has reached a critical milestone in its long-range missile program with the successful third test launch of the TAYFUN Short-Range Ballistic Missile (SRBM) System.
Developed by Roketsan, the missile was launched from Rize-Artvin Airport on February 3, marking a significant step in the country's defence capabilities, Caliber.Az reports, citing SavunmaSanayist.com.
During the test, air and sea traffic was restricted within a 700-kilometre radius to ensure safety, as the 500+ kilometre-range TAYFUN Missile completed its mission. Demonstrating exceptional accuracy, the missile struck its designated target on the sea surface. Given that ballistic missiles typically detonate 50-100 metres from their target, TAYFUN’s centimetre-level precision represents a major technological achievement for the Turkish defence industry.
The successful test has sparked discussions about potential new configurations of the TAYFUN missile. While serial production is ongoing for the Turkish Land Forces, defence analysts anticipate that a naval variant designed to engage maritime targets may be developed in the near future.
TAYFUN measures approximately 6.5 metres in length, has a 610mm diameter, and weighs 2,300 kilograms. It features Roketsan’s proprietary "coordinate-guided system" and is equipped with a preformed fragmentation warhead, making it highly effective against strategic targets. Additionally, the missile is designed to resist electronic warfare measures, further enhancing its operational reliability.
With its hypersonic-level cruising speed, detecting and intercepting TAYFUN poses a significant challenge for enemy air and missile defence systems.
Following the test, President of the Defense Industries, Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün, emphasized the importance of the achievement.
“TAYFUN has successfully met the designated range and precision criteria with this latest test launch. The test not only validated the system’s performance parameters but also made significant contributions to its development process. Türkiye’s efforts to enhance its long-range missile capabilities continue with field-proven systems. I extend my gratitude to all the teams involved in this process,” Görgün stated.
