Egypt, Türkiye to mark 100 years of diplomatic relations with strategic talks
Egypt's Foreign Minister, Bedir Abdellaty, will visit Türkiye on February 4, 2025, to engage in discussions with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Ankara.
According to diplomatic sources cited by Turkish media, the talks will cover a wide array of topics, focusing not only on strengthening bilateral relations but also on preparations for the upcoming 2026 Türkiye-Egypt High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council meeting, per Caliber.Az.
A key theme of the meeting will be regional developments, particularly the ongoing situations in Gaza, Syria, Libya, the Horn of Africa, and the Sahel region. Both sides are expected to align on their commitment to advancing regional stability and security, with a specific emphasis on supporting efforts to bring peace to Gaza.
The year 2025 marks the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Türkiye and Egypt, and the ministers will use this opportunity to highlight the mutual commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation across various sectors. This includes discussions on boosting trade, with the goal of reaching a $15 billion trade target, as well as fostering increased investments between the two nations.
In terms of Gaza, the ministers will focus on their joint efforts to support the rebuilding of the region, backing the governance of Gaza by Palestinian authorities, and promoting a two-state solution for lasting peace. They will also reiterate their readiness to continue close cooperation on providing humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Furthermore, the ministers will address the ongoing situation in Syria, particularly the need for engagement with the new Syrian administration to ensure the country's stability and prosperity.
Another key topic will be the fight against terrorism, including joint efforts to combat the PKK/YPG and ISIS terrorist organizations, as well as potential steps to enhance regional security.
